Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim reminds us that education “statistics” have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR SUPERMAN. As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying “drop-out factories” and “academic sinkholes,” methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems. If Knowledge is Power then how come the education system is always the first to experience budget cuts? What type of education is your child receiving? Are you paying an arm and a leg for private school? If we really cared about our children we would be doing everything in our power to make sure they had the best books, to make sure that aftercare programs were not being omitted due to “budget cuts” and the government  fiance mismanagement for a make believe war.  Maybe you belong to the 1-5% or middle class and this does not affect therefore concern you.

Who is making these decisions? Better yet do you care to know? Do you care enough to unite and take a stand to put education in the front line? If you won’t listen to me then maybe you will listen to Kanye West, “The schools are closed and the prisons are open”. Many of this country’s leaders are setting not only you but, your children. the future up for failure… “So what are you gonna fight or run?”
